At an altitude of 1007 m with wonderful mountainscapes. Half-way between the classy resort of Gstaad in the Bernese Oberland and the small town of Gruyères in the canton of Fribourg, lie the two places of Château-d'Oex and Rougemont. This small village of nearly 900 inhabitants will surprise you by its magnificent street of the village including many chalets dating back a hundred years bear testimony to the folk art of the region. Classified architectural heritage but also with the church, of Romanesque style, was built by the monks of Cluny in the 11th century and transformed in the 16th century. Older traditions too have been retained, the much-loved Alpine cheese of Etivaz is still made in a copper pot over an open wood fire.
